2.7  Other fibres have risks & must be controlled
There is growing concern worldwide regarding the potential health risks associated with the other natural and man-made fibres. In recent years, several countries have classified many natural and man-made mineral fibres as possible and probable human carcinogens. It is noteworthy that in 1993, a Group of Experts convened by the International Programme on Chemical Safety (IPCS), recommended that exposure to any respirable and durable fibre be controlled to the same extent as that required for asbestos, until the data prove that lesser controls would be sufficient.
